The El Riad Shrine will be hosting a seminar to teach first responders and other health care providers how to respond to and manage burns victims. You are getting this letter as you are in a position where you and / or your students might be the first on the scene to see and treat a burn victim. As you know, the initial treatment of burns is no longer being taught in any of the schools in South Dakota and this is a GREAT way to pick up some knowledge from our experts.

The seminar speaker is Jean Merz (MSN, Med, RN, BC) from the Shrine Pediatric Burn facility in Cincinnati Ohio. Some of the areas that will be covered are the immediate treatment priorities for stabilization of the patient following a thermal injury; the principles of wound care at the scene, in the hospital, and in ambulatory settings; and current advancements in burn care manafgement. and current advancements in burn care management.

The main purpose is to give first responders and other health care providers up to date knowledge on the immediate treatment of a burn victim and treatment modalities that will enhance recovery leading to a successful rehabilitation.

For those needing continuing education contacr hours we will have 4 hours available for nursing and EMT’s. Shriners Hospital for Children – Cincinnati (OH-275,030112) is an approved provider of continuing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Registration starts at 8 AM (coffee and rolls provided) with the seminar beginning at 8:30 AM running until about 1 PM. Registration starts at 5:30pm for the March 24th evening session. This is a FREE seminar with FREE CE hours.
